Something 'weird' spotted about Mo Salah before his penalty for Liverpool against Bournemouth

Liverpool faced a big day of Premier League football on Saturday as they headed to in-form Bournemouth.

The Cherries have been fantastic of late, sweeping to a remarkable 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest last time out.

Unbeaten in 12 in all competitions, Liverpool knew they’d have to be at their best to beat Andoni Iraola’s team on their own patch.

The Reds started slightly slowly, with both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai in particular looking especially off it.

However, Liverpool soon found their footing and were awarded a penalty after Cody Gakpo was felled in the box.

Mohamed Salah duly dispatched the spot-kick to make it 20 Premier League goals for the season. But just before Salah struck it, BBC pundit Ashley Williams spotted something ‘weird’ about the Egyptian.

Mo Salah not looking confident ahead of penalty

Liverpool were grateful to the referee for allowing what looked like a soft penalty against Gakpo.

Nevertheless, Arne Slot’s team deserve credit for hanging in against a dangerous Bournemouth side for the first half an hour.

If the Reds were going to wrestle things back their way, Salah was always going to be key.

But having missed two previous penalties against the Cherries, Williams told BBC Sport that the 32-year-old did not look confident of scoring as he stepped up.

“Salah didn’t look that confident, weirdly,” said the former Wales centre-back. “What a penalty though. He just smashes it into the corner. I think Liverpool will now go and dominate this game.”

“Kepa tried to not move, but if you don’t move Mo Salah will smash it in the corner!” fellow pundit Pat Nevin commented. “The perfect penalty kick.”

Was it a penalty?

The penalty’s awarding came at a time when Liverpool were growing into the game at the Vitality Stadium after a slow start.

However, they got incredibly fortunate with the awarding of a penalty against Lewis Cook.

Gakpo appeared to catch his own heels and trip himself after making his way into the Bournemouth box.

But after a VAR check, the officials decided that there had been an infringement from Cook. Whatever it was, it looked soft.

Still, you’ve got to take your chances and Salah will be grateful for a 10th career goal against Bournemouth.
