At 20 years old, Alexandra Eala is one of the brightest prospects in women’s tennis.

The young Filipino rounded out last year by winning the women’s singles gold at the Southeast Asian Games in what she described as a "dream" tournament.

It has been a quick turnaround for Eala, who was soon back in action with the turn of the new year at the ASB Classic in Auckland.

Semi-final finishes in both the singles and doubles events propelled the young hopeful inside the top 50 world rankings for the first time in her career as she prepares to debut in the main draw of the Australian Open 2026.

Looking to build on her breakthrough in 2025, Eala is preparing to “give my all” Down Under in the first Grand Slam of the year.

“We don’t have a lot of time, but I have to thank my team for that,” Eala said ahead of her New Zealand outing. “I think they prepped super well. This tournament definitely was one to prep me for Australia with the heat, so I’m excited.

“Australia, it’s the fun Slam, so I’m excited to have fun and give my all.”

Eala will take on America’s Alycia Parks in the first round of the main draw.
