Luis Diaz drops subtle hint over Liverpool future as verdict shared on Arne Slot rotation

The Colombian winger has been linked with a move away from the Reds, although he has outlined ambitions he would like to fulfil in English football

Luis Diaz has plenty he wants to accomplish in the Premier League. That means he could be staying at Liverpool for a little longer yet.

The 28-year-old has played a crucial part in the Reds' domestic dominance this season, as they've surged to a 13-point lead at the top of the table.

Diaz has netted 13 times in all competitions, occupying a position both on the left flank and through the middle. The Colombian's work-rate and intelligent runs have made him an ideal foil for the sensational Mohamed Salah in attack.

Ahead of the campaign there was plenty of speculation about the forward and in recent weeks he has been linked with a transfer away again. However, speaking with Liverpool club media, Diaz has outlined some of his ambitions for the future, which would require him staying put at Anfield.

"Now and again, I find out about the stats when people post them on social media," he said about currently being the fourth-highest scoring Colombian in Premier League history.

"But how nice it is to be getting close to such great fellow Colombian players like Hugo [Rodallega] and all the others.

"It's a real pleasure for me to be right there close behind them and I realise that maybe I will catch them at some point. You could say that it's another one of those personal targets that I have. I know that things are going well for me and I'm in decent form.

"What I want the most is to keep making history and, first and foremost, that Colombians who come over to England to play really leave their mark. That's key for us all now – to give a positive image of our country, just like they all did.

"Now those of us here are trying to do just that. I'm very happy with that and we hope to continue doing the same things in future."

Juan Pablo Angel currently leads the way in the Colombian scoring stakes with 44. Diaz has 25 for the Reds, putting him behind Rodallega (29) and Hamilton Ricard (31).

Diaz also spoke openly about the manner in which Slot has rotated his attacking options this season.

While Salah has been a mainstay, the likes of Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez have all frequently rotated in the front line. The Reds' no. 7 says he doesn't envy the decisions Slot has to make sometimes.

"He's known just exactly how to manage the group and every single player that he has in the squad because it cannot be easy for any coach when he has two or three excellent alternatives for each position on the field to make decisions on who to play and who to leave out.

"It's not an easy task but he's been up to it and he's also given confidence to every single player in his squad."

Diaz came close to league and Champions League glory in his first season with the Reds after signing in January, although narrowly missed out on both after success in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
