PSG boss Luis Enrique has compared Liverpool to a Ligue 1 side that the French champions thrashed 4-1 on Saturday, ahead of their Champions League clash with the Reds in the mid-week.

Arne Slot's side travel to the Parc des Princes to face PSG in the first leg of their tie on Wednesday, and it is undoubtedly the biggest name matchup of the last-16 games.

Liverpool topped the Champions League table and looked immortal in the competition until their 3-2 defeat by PSV Eindhoven on matchday eight.

Enrique is aware of the danger his opponents bear, hailing them the 'best team in Europe', as Liverpool have lost just four games in all competitions this campaign, and are runaway leaders in the Premier League.

Yet, the Spanish coach insisted that he knows Liverpool's style 'very well' after comparing them to fellow Ligue 1 side Lille after PSG's rampant win over them on the weekend.

'We're not going to change much, today was a test, Liverpool and Lille have similar things, we put them under such pressure that they could no longer play from the back, they had to play long,' Enrique said.

'It will be different, it will be very complicated of course, but we are in the best period of the season.'

Liverpool have won more league games than any team in Europe's top five leagues this season (20), and Enrique is well aware of the magnitude of this clash.

Meanwhile, PSG remain invincible in their domestic ventures this term, but have suffered defeat by Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid on Europe's biggest stage.

They made it into the last-16 of the Champions League following a 10-0 win on aggregate over Stade Bretois in the playoff round.

Enrique added: 'We will play against the best team in Europe, qualified brilliantly, but it is not in our mentality to speculate, protect ourselves, stay defensive. We will attack and we will try to turn that in our favour.

'I know Liverpool very well, without a doubt they are the team in the best form in Europe both in terms of results and play.

'It could have been a Champions League final, we're going to try to do it with our weapons.'

In the red corner, Slot insisted that his Liverpool side fear no team, but maintain a professional respect for their opponents.

'Do we fear PSG? We don't fear anybody. But I am impressed by their quality, they are on an upwards curve a bit similar to ours at the moment,' he said.

'I don't think the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Real Madrid, these kind of clubs don't fear opponents.

'But we definitely respect them and there's a reason for that, and that's what you just said – that they won so many games in a row and they have so many quality players.

'I think it's going to be a very interesting game for everybody who loves football. I would be surprised if people who are neutral watch a different game than that one because I think everyone – including Paris Saint-Germain and us – are looking forward to the game.'
