By Gabriel DikeThe Head of Schools (HOS), Starfield Schools, Fagba, Lagos, Mrs. Juliana Eigbe, says the school would continue to expose its students to different sporting opportunities that would enhance their thinking, skills and self discipline.Eigbe stated this at the 12th Biennial Inter-House Sports competition of the school, which attracted parents, invited schools and old students.According to her, the competition is not just about the celebration and display of colours but the celebration of holistic education.She added: At Starfield College, we believe firmly that true education goes beyond the classroom. It must deliberately nurture the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains of every child’s development.The HOS assured parents that their children are in an environment where their mind is challenged, character is moulded, and physical abilities are developed, adding, “this commitment is reflected in the deliberate steps the school continues to take in broadening sporting intellectual opportunities for our learners.”Mrs. Eigbe stressed that in recent times, the school organized inter-school and inter-school chess competitions while its students represented the school at the British International School Chess competition.“These achievements highlight our dedication to developing strategic thinking, concentration, discipline, and confidence in our students.“Not stopping there, the school has also launched the Starfield Football Academy, designed to identify and nurture young talents with great footballing potential. Through structured coaching and mentorship, we aim to prepare future athletes who are not only skilled but disciplined and principled.“In addition, we are expanding our involvement in other sporting activities such as table tennis, basketball, and more, ensuring that every child finds an avenue to express talent, build teamwork, and develop resilience.”She reminded the students that sports is not only about winning, but about friendliness, respect, fair play, and true sportsmanship.In her closing remarks, the college Principal, Mrs. Sara Oyinloye, described the competition as a celebration of talent, discipline, teamwork and the indomitable spirit of the young athletes.Oyinloye stressed that beyond medals and trophies, the Inter-house sports has achieved something even greater, noting, “it has strengthened friendships, fostered unity, and built lasting bonds not only among its students but also with students from other schools who joined in the spirit of healthy competition.“Our students who competed today, we hope that the discipline, confidence and positive attitude displayed on the field will be carried back into your classrooms. May you show the same readiness to be competitive in your academic pursuit, striving always for excellence,” she advised.The chairperson of the occasion and a Director in the Lagos State Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Ashimi Kafilat, affirmed that sports can be used to foster unity in the state and country.She advised the students to comply with the rules and compete with integrity and display the spirit of sportsmanship.Kafilat acknowledged that Inter-house goes beyond competition and that it helps to also boost students’ skills and thinking to achieve a better result.She acknowledged that teachers are shaping the future leaders of the country and commended the management of Starfield Schools for promoting sports.At the end of the competition, White House emerged winners in both college and early years categories.In the college category, the White House placed 1st with eight gold, seven silver and five bronze medals. Followed by Navy Blue House with six gold, seven silver and seven bronze and the 3rd position went to Red House with five gold, five silver and seven bronze medals.For the Early Years category, the White House won 15 gold, seven silver and seven bronze, followed by Red House with seven gold, 14 silver and eight bronze and the 3rd position went to Yellow House with six gold, three silver and six bronze
