Cole Palmer's support of Manchester United 'is gone' and he wouldn't want to sign for United until the end of his career.

That is the view of BBC Radio 5Live pundit and former Chelsea star Pat Nevin, who believes he wouldn't want to leave a 'vibrant team' like Enzo Maresca's side.

Palmer made the move to Chelsea in a £42.5million deal in the summer of 2023, and has gone from strength to strength at Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old was impressing on the fringes of City's first team during their treble winning 2022/23 campaign but was keen to move on and get regular football elsewhere. Since joining Chelsea, he has become an England international and was named PFA Fans' Player of the Year and PFA Young Player of the Year last term.

Palmer bagged 25 goals and 15 assists in all competitions last season and already has 13 goals and six assists to his name this season.

Having been a boyhood Manchester United fan, there has been talk of Palmer potentially making the move to Old Trafford in the future.

But Nevin has poured cold water over any thought that move could come in the near future.

“Cole Palmer’s support for Manchester United is gone. It really has gone," Nevin told Grosvenor Sport.

"Maybe some part of him might want to go there at the end of his career but that really won’t be in his mind.

“There’s no way he’d want to leave a vibrant young team like Chelsea for the current Manchester United, despite their good performance against Liverpool.

“That move would be years and years away from even being considered and if Chelsea fans get worried they just need to look at his contract length.”

In terms of how much it would take to prise Palmer away from Stamford Bridge, Nevin believes it would be a value in excess of £100million.

“Cole Palmer is worth well in excess of £100million, that is an absolute given," Nevin added.

“Having said that, the market has changed from English clubs being able to throw money at players without worrying too much about consequences, look at Everton and Newcastle who are having to be careful at the moment.

“But Cole Palmer is one player who will still be seen as worth taking the risk on and I think there will be attempts to sign him from Chelsea.

“If Barcelona were in the right position then they would be in for him and I suspect Real Madrid would be the same because if I had to pick between Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer, I’d pick Palmer.

“I said that before Euro 2024 and it raised a lot of eyebrows, but Palmer is genius levels. He doesn’t sell himself big but he is posting numbers like Kevin De Bruyne used to and like Mohamed Salah does – but they didn’t at his age.

“He is very special and worth £100million – and the rest on top.”
