Man Utd travel chaos as cancelled flight calls Ruben Amorim plan into question

Manchester United were forced to drive back up north after beating Fulham as an airline issue led to their flight being cancelled.

The Red Devils travelled to London for Sunday evening's late kick-off against Fulham. And while United left Craven Cottage with all the points courtesy of a 1-0 win, it was a long night for Ruben Amorim's side.

That's because they were forced to travel back up to the north west by coach after discovering earlier in the day that they would be unable to proceed with their planned flight back.

The Manchester Evening News revealed the details, including the fact that the majority of players and staff parked at Manchester Airport in anticipation of their flight home.

It's said United eventually made it back to Manchester in the early hours of the morning at 1.30am after a three-and-a-half hour trip back from the capital.

But despite their late return, Amorim's players are set to train today before having tomorrow off ahead of flying to Romania on Wednesday for their final Europa League fixture with FCSB.

United are then planning to stay in Bucharest over night and train on Friday morning before flying back to the UK ahead of their upcoming Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

United climbed up to 12th in the Premier League standings as a result of their narrow 1-0 win, which came courtesy of a deflected long-range striker from Lisandro Martinez.

And Amorim quipped after the match that he had denied a cheeky request from his players to have the Monday off.

The Portuguese coach turns 40 on Monday - but that doesn't mean the hard work stops for him or his players as he told MUTV with a smile: "They asked for the day off tomorrow. I didn't give it, so we are training tomorrow because it's my birthday and my gift is to work with them, with the guys who didn't play. We need to work to improve all the players.

"It will be a fantastic day because we won and I'm going to do what I love in our club. Then, in the end, I am going to have dinner with my kids."
