Former Cork star Aidan Walsh set to transfer from Kanturk to An Ghaeltacht

A blow for Kanturk with key player Aidan Walsh set to transfer to Kerry outfit An Ghaeltacht.

The now 35-year-old has been an important figure for the Duhallow club helping Kanturk climb from the Junior A ranks to the second tier of Cork football, the Senior A level.

Kanturk will be one of the fancied sides in the McCarthy Insurance Group SAFC this year. They meet Éire Óg, Kilshannig and Newmarket in their group stage.

Walsh has been living in the An Ghaeltacht parish for the past number of years and has a child with his partner.

The former Cork dual star wanted to keep playing hurling for Kanturk, but it’s understood the rules don’t allow it. The team in green and white have been very competitive in the Premier Senior hurling championship over the last couple of years and his experience and character will leave a void.

2010 was a dream year for Walsh. He helped the Leesiders win the Division 1 football league title before going on to claim an All-Ireland medal after starring for Conor Counihan’s team in the historic victory over Down in the final.

Walsh’s performances were so impressive that he ended 2010 with an All-Star award as well as being named Young Player of the Year. He won another All-Star in 2012. Walsh played both football and hurling for Cork for one season, back in 2014.
