The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday issued an official medical update on India's ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, confirming that he has sustained a laceration injury to his spleen following a nasty fall during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25, 2025. Iyer had injured his left lower rib cage region while fielding after taking a brilliant catch to dismiss Alex Carey. He was immediately taken to a Sydney hospital for further evaluation after showing signs of discomfort in the dressing room.

According to the BCCI statement, scans have revealed a laceration to the spleen, and Iyer is currently under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. “Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25, 2025. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. "Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress,” the statement read.
