Seven-time Grand Slam singles champion Venus Williams is set to return to the BNP Paribas Open after receiving a wild card into the singles and doubles draws for next month’s tennis tournament in Indian Wells, California.

“I’m so excited to be heading back to Indian Wells and can’t wait to return home to play in California,” Williams said, according to the event’s website.

The 45-year-old will make her 10th career appearance at the event, which runs from 4–15 March in the California desert. She is a three-time semi-finalist at Indian Wells, most recently in 2018. Her last appearance came in 2024, when she lost in the first round as a wild card.

“This tournament is always such a special experience, and there’s nothing like competing in front of these incredible fans,” said Williams.

Competing at age 45 on one of the sport’s biggest stages during Women’s History Month adds significance and embodies the championship mindset Williams continues to display. She is one of the most accomplished players in tennis history, with seven Grand Slam singles titles. Her career spans over three decades, and Williams continues to redefine longevity in women’s sport.

Williams does not know who her first-round competitor will be as she will face one of the 12 qualifiers who advance to the main draw on Tuesday (3 March). If she advances, she could meet one of the Grand Slam champion Madison Keys, in the second round.
