Max King forced to move out of home, illness, mould infestation, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs

Bulldogs star Max King has revealed he’s been forced to move out of his home on the eve of finals due to a mould infestation.

King has been feeling off for the last six or so weeks and had put it down to a lingering flu. However he found out last week that the cause of his sickness was actually mould that had developed in his bathroom.

It was having such an effect on King and his family that the club helped them move out and into a temporary home.

“It was going on for six or seven weeks. I was sick, my missus was sick and my son’s been sick,” King told AAP.

“It was relentless and it wasn’t getting any better.

“Someone suggested mould and when I read into it, I knew that’s what it was.

“My symptoms were flu-like, coughing, sweats, going hot and cold, just feeling crook.

“We had a bit of mould in the tiles and with all this rain we’ve had in Sydney, we’d also had a bit of leakage in the roof.

“We moved out and the next morning, we felt better. We had removalists the other day and it’s a busy time, so the club has been great at helping us out.”

King was one of the form props of the competition in the first half of the season, averaging 147 running metres in his first 11 appearances — which earned him a State of Origin call-up.

But his impact has dropped off recently with the 28-year-old averaging 91 running metres per game.

Even King knows his form hasn’t been where it once was this earlier this season and now he has an answer on why he was struggling.

“There were games where I thought I was on my death bed,” he told News Corp.

“It affected my performance.

“I have been dragging my feet for the last six weeks and it affected my performance as a football player.

“You feel like you’re letting the team down — well, you are letting the team down.

“When you’re sick, you don’t get the best out of yourself and I feel like there’s been a dip (in form) over the last two months. I haven’t been at my best.”

King’s wife, Christy — who is six months pregnant — and their two-year-old son Hercules have also been sick from the mould.

Once the cause was discovered they quickly packed up and moved out with the help of the Bulldogs and instantly felt better.

Now they’re on the hunt for a permanent home because they won’t be moving back into their old place.
