Sainz concedes Williams results so far 'incredibly frustrating and very disappointing'

"But everything that has happened on track in terms of results has been incredibly frustrating and very disappointing because I expected, after a good adaptation period with the car, to start getting results pretty quickly given how competitive and how fast I've been this year.

"But for certain reasons, results are not coming and that frustrates me but I'm sure it will come at a point in the season."

He added: "Athletes in their careers go through better years and worse years, it happens to golfers, tennis players. You have years that everything seems to fall into a good side and years that everything seems to fall in the bad side.

"It's been a very challenging year in that sense to me, very difficult to gather any kind of momentum. Always different things happening."

Williams brought several upgrades to Belgium last weekend, which Sainz used to score his best result in a race during Saturday's Sprint.

With practice limited and the race held in the wet, he believes this weekend will be crucial to get a better understanding of the newer package.

"I think it's a weekend that is a good track to test, a track that all teams know very well," he said.

"Running the upgraded car has also led us to maybe different set-up directions for the future so it's important this weekend that we get to understand those.

"As we saw from the Sprint to the race [in Belgium], we did a few set-up changes that didn't do what we expected to the car and now we need to keep understanding that."
