Manchester United's summer transfer business accelerated on Monday night after confirming the summer arrival of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. The Reds have paid £65million plus £6m in add-ons to secure the services of the 25-year-old, who has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

Mbeumo has become United's third summer arrival after Matheus Cunha made the £62.5m move from Wolves and Diego Leon signed from Cerro Porteno for £3.3m plus add-ons.

More are expected to follow Mbeumo through the door, however. United are in the market for a new centre forward and also want to sign a central midfielder before the end of the summer window. Nicolas Jackson, Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins are among the strikers on United's shortlist.

With that in mind, the Manchester Evening News has taken a look at the latest transfer news concerning United...

Martinez approach

United are ready to approach Aston Villa about a potential move for Emiliano Martinez, as they look to solve their goalkeeping situation following Andre Onana's latest injury blow.

Onana is expected to miss the start of the Premier League season after injuring his hamstring during pre-season training. Indeed, United's hunt for a new goalkeeper has increased.

While Martinez is suspended for the first game of the season following his red card at Old Trafford in May, United are keen to sign the Argentine and make him their latest summer addition.

In fact, according to the Daily Mail, United held discussions over the weekend about signing the 32-year-old. Although Villa value Martinez at £40million, the Reds are still expected to make an approach.

MEN says: There is no doubt that Martinez is a top goalkeeper and one of the best in the world, but I don't think that United should pursue a move for him. Turning 33 in September, it's safe to say that Martinez is entering the twilight of his career and the Reds may only get him for a couple of years at his very best.

While I do think United need an instant solution, I think they can get someone younger who is just below Martinez's level but has the potential to reach even higher. In this case, that would be Royal Antwerp's Senne Lammens, 23, who enjoyed an excellent season in the Belgian Pro League.

Hjulmand move

United are eyeing up a move for Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand, according to A Bola. Sporting are aware that Ruben Amorim is very fond of the Denmark midfielder, who has other admirers in England.

United are looking to strengthen their midfield and Hjulmand is someone that is being considered by Amorim, who worked with the Dane in Portugal. The 26-year-old made 47 appearances for Sporting last season.

MEN says: United want to sign another midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window and I think Hjulmand should be right at the top of their shopping list for that position.

The former Lecce man has been impressive for Sporting across the last two years and I think he deserves a shot at Premier League football and playing for United, having worked under Amorim before.

The United head coach knows how to get the best out of Hjulmand and I do believe he can slot straight into the central midfield position next to Bruno Fernandes, that is for sure.
