Jannik Sinner Matches a Record Set by Novak Djokovic at the Miami Open

The Miami Open tennis tournament is underway, and we already have some surprises in the championship.

The Italian Jannik Sinner won against the Bosnian Damir Dzumhur this Saturday and reached 24 consecutive sets won in Masters 1,000 tournaments, a record he now shares with Novak Djokovic.

Background of Sinner

Sinner, world number 2, dispatched Dzumhur in just over an hour of play to advance to the third round of a tournament he already conquered in 2024.

The Italian has won 12 consecutive matches without dropping a single set in Masters 1000 events. He started that streak at the 2025 Paris tournament, which he won, and continued it at the recent Indian Wells, where he also lifted the title.

How did he do it?

His victory, by a double 6-3, matched the 24 consecutive sets that Djokovic won between the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments in 2016, which also earned him both trophies.

Sinner can surpass the Serbian on Monday when he faces the Frenchman Corentin Moutet (ranked number 33) in the third round.

The transalpine also aims to become the eighth male tennis player to win Indian Wells and Miami in the same year.
