Aussie cricket icon becomes butt of joke after post with girlfriend sparks age gap quips

Siddle and Burgess have been together for more than a year, but after the former Test star was congratulated on reaching 100 Big Bash games by his girlfriend, their relationship became a punchline.

On the Off-Field Drama podcast, hosts Stirling Farquhar and Samuel Burke used the harmless post as ammo for a catalogue of jokes on Tuesday.

“Peter Siddle, they’re calling him Nathan Cleary … yeah, 40/20,” Farquhar said, in reference to how Cleary has become somewhat of a 40/20 specialist over the years.

“He just notched up his 100th game and took to Instagram, had a socials post with his girlfriend.

“So he’s 40, and his missus is 20.

“And you were saying that he’s not allowed to have sleepovers?”

To which Burke replied, “Well, allegedly … I think it’d be hard for the dad to be greeting her [sic] f***ing daughter’s boyfriend … and could be bowling a bit of chin music at the Christmas lunch.”

Farquhar then chimed in: “You’ve gotta think, when he [Siddle] bowled his hat-trick ball in 2010, his missus was getting picked up from preschool.”

The episode misquoted Siddle’s age, with the iconic Aussie quick actually 41, while Burgess’s age is not publicly available, although she recently graduated university, which would mean she would likely be older than 20.

But that didn’t stop the comment section on her Instagram post from making several similar jokes, which Burgess leaned into.

“Guess which one of us played their 100th big bash game and which one turned 20 something!” Burgess commented on the post.

She also liked a reply saying: “The bleached hair is giving 20-something so I’m going Peter”.

The couple have not been shy with their relationship, with Siddle first appearing on her Instagram on November 25, 2024, when Burgess posted, “Happy birthday to the best”, with a picture of her and Siddle.

Since then, the couple have documented their trips across Europe, their dinner dates and time out at the Big Bash.

Burgess is the first partner Siddle has gone public with since he split from his wife of five years, Anna Weatherlake, in August 2022.
