CONFIRMED: Everton sign Carlos Alcaraz on loan from Flamengo

This is becoming more the standard for Everton Football Club in recent transfer windows. Out of nowhere, the club have today added to the squad with a loan signing that no one saw coming, not even the club insiders or the transfer ‘in-the-knows’ (ITKs).

The club have signed Argentine midfielder Carlos Alcaraz on loan from Flamengo in Brazil, with conditions built in to make the transfer permanent. The 24-year-old has previously featured for Southampton and went on loan to Juventus in Italy as well last season before returning to Brazil with Flamengo earlier this season.

The Brazilian club’s Twitter account confirmed the transfer along with the condition that the loan would be made permanent should the player meet certain performance clauses which remain unconfirmed right now.

The Toffees lost the services of Orel Mangala last week for the remainder of the season following his knee injury, but will get back James Garner and then Tim Iroegbunam soon. The addition of Alcaraz, who plays in an attacking midfield role, should help in the goalscoring department as the Argentine shows a lot more composure and creativity on the ball than incumbent Abdoulaye Doucoure whose attacking contributions have fallen off a cliff this season.

Per The Athletic however -

"Everton have not yet confirmed the deal and club sources indicate that, although they are interested in the player, Flamengo’s announcement is premature."

Looks like there might still be more to be worked out between the player and the club before an announcement will be made through Everton's official channels.
