M By Marnie Vinall After a decade in the competition, Joel Hamling has kicked his first goal in the AFL. The 32-year-old took a contested mark against Jack Buckley and finished off the job. And what ensued? You guess it, another spat of pushing and shoving. After the mark was taken, Hamling did get Buckley in the head. Luke Breust kicks a fitting first Hawks goal of the afternoon D By Dean Bilton A champion of the Hawks threepeat kicks the first goal on this day of centenary celebration. After a few wayward looks on goal, Breust makes no mistake with a set shot snap from the pocket. Breust and Gunston, somehow, are still incredible threats inside the Hawthorn forward 50. Some things never change. Smith has another taunt at the Bulldogs M By Marnie Vinall There's another pinch of spice added to the Bulldogs/Bailey Smith feud with the Geelong star having a barb. The Dogs skipper Marcus Bontempelli said on Channel 7 this morning: "It's nice to know we're still on Bailey's mind. He's still thinking about us, even at another team." This was after Smith said post-win that the full MCG crowd was beautiful and "you're not getting that at Ballarat" after his old side, the Dogs, played in front of less than 5,000 at Mars Stadium that day. Now, Smith posted to his Instagram some emojis of fish and tagged "The Salty Dog Cafe". Giants get any injury hit M By Marnie Vinall Kieren Briggs off due to an injury after what appeared like an ankle injury. He's getting it looked on the bench but that doesn't help GWS in mounting a comeback here. Stringer gets a major! M By Marnie Vinall Jake Stringer was made the sub after a few dismal outings but took his moment in this final term. He's got his first goal this match, and just his fourth this year. Unfortunately for Giants fans, it was followed by a Jesse Hogan behind. GWS need to get going if they want to make a challenge here. Richmond hoping to spoil Hawthorn's celebrations D By Dean Bilton (Getty Images) The Hawks are celebrating 100 years of their football club today with an emotional and trophy-laden ceremony on the field before the start of play. But the legends of yesteryear have left the arena now, and it's all about the Hawks of 2025 now. Their challengers are the Tigers, who have made a bit of a habit of the shock giant-killing this year. This would be the biggest of the lot for a young Richmond side. Game on at the MCG. Swans hold significant lead M By Marnie Vinall James Jordan has put through his second goal of the season from a set shot in the right pocket to extend Sydney's buffer room this final term. They are up by 21 with 16 minutes to go. Jordan has had a hard match up on Lachie Whitfield but has been managing that extremely well. 3QT: Sydney 8.10 (58) leads GWS 6.8 (44) M By Marnie Vinall (Getty) Sydney have scored just the three goals since quarter-time. After a fast start with free-flowing footy on display, the Giants fought back some control and slowed their tempo. The Giants, however, managed just the one goal in the third term. Tom Green, Lachie Ash and Finn Callaghan are having a huge impact around the ground but GWS are struggling to convert any meaningful passages of play. For Sydney, Chad Warner and Justin McInerney have been important around the ball but haven't had any standout goalkickers. None have put through multiple goals today. Let's see who can take control in this fourth and final quarter. Greene kicks it left M By Marnie Vinall Toby Greene lined up for an important captain's goal from 50m out but he shanked it left. Greene's mark inside 50 finished off a brilliant run and carry passage from the Giants, started by Callan Ward in defence. Greene's got just the two behinds now so far this game with one quarter to go. Warner scores to extend Swans lead M By Marnie Vinall It's a high intensity, physical game at the SCG but with not many goals this third term. Corey Warner broke the goal drought after each side had put through just the one as the clock approached three-quarter time. Warner received the ball out of a contest and ran inside 50, launching it off his boot. It opens the Swans' margin out to 15-points. Hogan gets his first M By Marnie Vinall Jesse Hogan glued his feet to the ground and took a strong contested mark with players all around him. More importantly, he finished it off. That's his first goal of the afternoon from four touches to keep GWS right in this. Stringer misses another M By Marnie Vinall It's a game of behinds this third-quarter as Jake Stringer adds to the tally. He's now booted 3.13 this season and will be hopefully to change that ledger soon. McInerney misses a sitter M By Marnie Vinall (Getty) Justin McInerney ran with the ball straight towards goal but shanked the kick. He finished with his head in his hands. He won't be happy with that at all. It followed a behind from Joel Hamling his second of the day, but it shows Sydney are the ones creating opportunities to score right now. Where is Jesse Hogan? M By Marnie Vinall Well, right now stuck on the bench. But it's been a quiet game from the Giants' spearhead, who has just the three touches and one behind so far this match. Swans with first goal of the second half M By Marnie Vinall Sydney get their reward for their dominance of the last five minutes with a goal through Aaron Francis. It was Chad Warner who started the turnover, scooping up the ball as it spilled from a tackle and driving it up the ground. Swans start strong this second half. M By Marnie Vinall GWS finally have the ball but it was handed to them following a James Rowbottom behind. Sydney have controlled the possession to start this second half, with five uncontested marks in the opening two minutes. Stringer on for second half M By Marnie Vinall Jake Stringer has been subbed on by GWS for the second half. They were forced to pull that trigger after Toby Bedford was forced out following his collision with Lewis Melican. Just one kick in it, let's see how this close enfolds in the second half... HT: Sydney 6.5 (41) lead GWS 5.5 (35) M By Marnie Vinall (Getty) The day started all Sydney, who kicked the first five goals of the game, but GWS wrestled themselves back into the contest with five of the last six. The Giants held the Swans to just one goal in the second term, while piling on three of their own. And it looks tough out there. Not only is there a fair amount of argy bargy ensuing following each and every goal but it's physical at the contest. Finn Callaghan is already up to 20 disposals and four tackles, while Isaac Henney has had 16 touches (he has Toby Bedford running with him) and four score involvements. Aaron Cadman is the only player with multiple goals to their name with two. Ward on the board after contentious call M By Marnie Vinall Isaac Heeney thought he was taken high by Callan Ward. But instead it was the Giants veteran that was given the free kick as Heeney was perceived to raise his arm in the tackle. The Swans star had some words to say about that to the umpire. Meanwhile, Darcy Jones has come to the bench, pointing to the outside of his right knee, reports Fox's boundary rider Ruby Schleicher. Show more posts
