Liverpool are in 'direct contact' with 'world-class' Bayern Munich player's agents as they push to sign him

Liverpool are being active in the winter transfer window.

Many Reds fans were left disappointed last summer after seeing their side make just one signing – Federico Chiesa. Supporters were expecting more.

However, Arne Slot has worked wonders without significant arrivals, and one can only wonder how much better Liverpool will be once the Dutchman signs a few top-class players.

The Premier League leaders have now been linked with a move to sign a big Bayern Munich star.

Joshua Kimmich has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a long time.

The Germany international has entered the final six months of his contract at Bayern. The expectation was that he would pen a new deal, but things could change now.

TBR Football exclusively revealed in December that Pep Guardiola has asked Manchester City to sign Kimmich for his side.

Now, Sky Sports have claimed that Liverpool also want to sign the 29-year-old, and they are even prepared to pay £21 million to land him this month.

It has been revealed that the Reds are in ‘direct contact’ with Kimmich’s representatives and see him as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold should he leave for Real Madrid.

Furthermore, it has been said that Liverpool view Kimmich as a ‘priority’ target because their recruitment team are big fans of his versatility.

The Reds’ plan now is to convince the German to join them first before contacting Bayern to strike a deal.

Kimmich would solve two problems at Liverpool

Kimmich is as versatile as they come.

The German, hailed as ‘world-class’ by Julian Nagelsmann on Bundesliga.com, can play at right-back, in central defence, as a number six and even in a box-to-box role in the middle of the park if required.

Although Conor Bradley is there, Liverpool will need another top-class option at right-back if Alexander-Arnold leaves the club.

To add to that, as good as Ryan Gravenberch has been, Liverpool don’t have a specialist in that defensive midfield role – Kimmich would fit in brilliantly if he moves to Anfield.

It is understandable why Liverpool want to sign Kimmich, but paying £21 million now when they can sign him for nothing in the summer feels a bit unnecessary.
