The Uruguayan is suddenly out of favor relative to coach Arne Slot's stacked attack and was the subject of a shock bid from Al-Hillal for big money.Meanwhile, sporting director Richard Hughes would look to use some of those funds to future-proof his side with a talented young striker. As of now, he's turned his eyes to the German second division and Nurnberg striker Stefanos Tzimas. Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip as the Reds look to codify their squad ahead of a push for four possible trophies.Darwin Nunez (Liverpool)Liverpool has rejected a bid in the region of £70 million ($85 million) from Saudi Club Al-Hillal for striker Darwin Nunez. The Reds signed the 25-year-old Uruguyian forward from Benfica in the summer of 2022 for around £65 million ($78 million).Liverpool value their striker closer to £85 million, meaning there's a good chance he could be the way out by the end of the window.Nunez had arguably the strongest goalscoring stretch of his career under current Al-Hillal coach Jorge Jesus at Benfica. He's struggled for goals this year, bagging just two in 755 Premier League minutes. The advanced numbers also reveal an extreme drop. After averaging 0.90 and .095 non-penalty xG+xA per 90 in his first two years with Liverpool, Nunez is averaging just 0.41 per 90 in 2024/25.Liverpool.com says: While it's never wise to sacrifice depth in the heat of a title challenge, a £70 million figure of Darwin Nunez at this stage is too good to pass up. He's still a potential talent as opposed to an established one, and the Reds could use that money on a player with a little more pedigree.(Image: Getty Images)Stefanos Tzimas (Nurnberg)19-year-old Greek striker Stefanos Tzimas is off to a promising start in professional football having scored eight goals in 14 league games (eight starts) for Nurnberg in the 2. Bundesliga. He's on loan from parent club PAOK, where he once became the youngest goalscorer in Greek history. The Reds are reportedly interested in paying up to £25 million ($31 million) for the talented teenager and are said to be in the lead for his signature.Tzimas opened up the possibility of a move to England in a recent interview with Kicker. "The Premier League is also my dream league," he admitted. "But at the moment I am enjoying life in beautiful Nuremberg."Liverpool.com says: Tzimas might be an interesting prospect, but Liverpool should be after a more established talent. There's no issue looking outside the box for players in less heralded leagues, this move just feels like too big of a stretch for too big of a fee.
