New Delhi:Shreyas Iyer is in the ICU of a Sydney hospital as he continues to recover from the nasty fall he had during the third ODI vs Australia. Iyer, who took a stunning catch while running backward from point to dismiss Alex Carey, seemed to injure his left rib cage during the effort and was taken to the hospital shortly after returning to the dressing room on Saturday. It is reliably learnt that Iyer had dangerously low body vitals after the fall and was rushed to the hospital in the situation which was life threatening at that moment.

The impact from the fall split a body part right under the rib cage and resulted in severe internal bleeding. It is understood that he was not in a good position in the dressing room and was swiftly rushed to the hospital after his blood pressure dropped to alarmingly low levels. Those tracking developments say it could have been touch and go but the BCCI medical team and support staff acted very swiftly to ensure he received immediate medical attention.

There is no official word from the Indian cricket board yet but it is learnt that Iyer is likely to remain in the ICU for two more days and his stay could be extended if the bleeding doesn't subside in the next 48 hours. If there is no improvement, he could well be under close watch for the coming week but it's safe to say that he will remain hospitalised at least for the next seven days.
