Ineos are repeating their Jadon Sancho trick with Marcus Rashford one year later, there are several positives

Marcus Rashford is inching closer to a Manchester United exit with talks now underway over a January move.

The 27-year-old has not played a single minute of football since Ruben Amorim dropped Marcus Rashford from the matchday squad against Manchester City.

Rashford was recalled against Newcastle but he failed to get off the bench despite United losing 2-0 at Old Trafford.

An exit now looks inevitable, and frankly, it has done since Rashford dropped a bombshell interview revealing he was “open to a new challenge”.

Despite Amorim leaving the door open for a United return, Marcus Rashford is now exploring his options with his representatives flying out to Italy to hold talks.

Marcus Rashford could follow Jadon Sancho blueprint

There would be mixed feelings if Rashford did complete a move away this month, but he would certainly leave in less controversial fashion than former teammate Jadon Sancho.

Sancho publicly fell out with Erik ten Hag and was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund by Ineos on January 11th last year. Almost one year later, Rashford looks set to complete a similar move.

After returning from a mildly successful loan at Dortmund, Sancho was sold to Chelsea on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy for £20-£25m this summer.

MORE UNITED STORIES

With Sancho out of favour at United, the Red Devils may have struggled to bring in such a fee without him going out on loan. That is the exact strategy Ineos are now looking to replicate with Rashford.

As reported by iNews, United felt their loan strategy worked well with Sancho as it salvaged his reputation and helped to command a more lucrative transfer fee from Chelsea.

On top of that, by going out on loan for the remainder of the season, Rashford’s £300,000 per week wages can be partly paid by another club to help the PSR situation.

What club will Marcus Rashford join this month?

After opening himself up to a January move, there are now seven potential destinations for Rashford this month.

It appears as though Rashford has rejected a move to Saudi Arabia as he would prefer to stay in Europe. Barcelona is Rashford’s dream move, but the La Liga giants simply cannot afford to register any new players.

The club leading the way is Serie A strugglers AC Milan, with Rashford’s brother currently in Italy to hold talks over a potential loan move.

AC Milan are happy to pay Rashford’s wages which has put them in pole position to get a deal over the line.

However, Dortmund, Tottenham, Juventus and Napoli have also been tipped as potential suitors for the United academy star.
