Nairobi, Kenya: The family of celebrity football player-turned-coach Robert Matano has been thrown into mourning following the death of his dear wife after a battle with cancer.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, his daughter Linda Matano confirmed the death of Mary Wandera, saying that her mother started ailing in November 2024 and was diagnosed with colon cancer.

"Mum was diagnosed with colon cancer in November 2025, and it sadly spread to her bones and caused a fracture. We were waiting for her to stabilise to treat the fracture, then start treating the cancer, but she sadly died on January 13," said Linda.

"She had a pathological fracture to the hip and bone, but she was never stable enough," she further explained.

How is Matano's family preparing for burial?

The family is meeting at Lumumba Block AB6-5886, where she went to be with the Lord after a short illness while under medical care.

Wandera was a mother of three children.

"We ask for your prayers and financial support during this time of mourning. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course, but for now, meetings are being held daily at her house," said Linda.

"The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. May Mama's soul rest in perfect peace," she added.
