Benjamin Sesko to Man United update as response deadline set after £65m opening bid

Newcastle United have reportedly given Benjamin Sesko a deadline to make a decision over his future amid the ongoing transfer race with Manchester United for the RB Leipzig star.

There has been a lot of talk around the race between those two clubs for the striker this summer. Newcastle are said to have had a first bid turned down by the German club, but are ready to go back with a second offer.

Latest reports, meanwhile, state that United are expected to make a formal bid for Sesko soon. As reported by The Manchester Evening News, United have opened discussions to sign the 22-year-old and are confident of financing a deal before any sales.

Both clubs are now said to be waiting for the decision of the player himself before pushing on with the transfer. talkSPORT report that Newcastle have told the player that they want an answer in the next 48 hours.

The Magpies are said to be confident that they can reach an agreement with Leipzig, but don't want the situation to drag on for longer than it should. Sesko has reportedly told his teammates that he expects to leave this summer, but there's no indication as to where his destination could be.

What happens if the striker doesn't make his decision within the timeframe is not known, but it could, potentially, involve Newcastle walking away from the deal, leaving United as front-runners.

While the Magpies will have Champions League football to offer this upcoming season, United were able to beat the club to the signing of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo earlier this summer. The now-United man was one of the transfer targets for Eddie Howe's side at the start of the window.
