Rohit Sharma to announce retirement: Report

1
India team captain Rohit Sharma is likely to announce his retirement after the five-Test series against Australia, according to a report by Times of India. The report mentioned that the BCCI top officials and the national selectors have spoken to Rohit. The time of the announcement hasn’t been revealed, but it seems he would disclose the news after the final Test match in Sydney.

However, if the team makes it to the final of the World Test championship, Rohit might seek more time from the selectors. He looked shattered after India lost the fourth Test against Australia and admitted that he needs to address his failures. He has managed just 31 runs in three Tests, and there is a possibility of him walking for the final time to the middle when the two teams clash at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

“Thinking about the past is not right? I know the results haven’t gone our way, and as a skipper, that is disappointing,’ he said.

“We are trying to do a lot of things, but nothing is falling in place for us. It is disturbing without a doubt and I have to solve a couple of things on the personal level as well,” he added.

The 184-run defeat in Melbourne has put India behind by 2-1 with one more Test left. Rohit started the series at No.6 to allow KL Rahul to open the innings, as he is one of the in-form Indian batters. Rohit, however, dropped Shubman Gill from the team to return as an opener by demoting Rahul to the No. 3 slot. Even this move back-fired as Rohit registered two failures.
