(Marya Welch Tennis Center)Records: UC Davis 8-8, CSUN 4-4The Short Story: Despite a doubles point loss, UC Davis women's tennis secured four of six singles points to secure a Big West win over CSUN on Saturday, Feb. 28.COURTSIDEThe Matadors took the doubles point with two dominant victories.Despite needing three sets each, Polina Marakhtanova and Mika Ikemori each defeated their opponents in the first two singles.Vivian Gallaway and Aileena Hu closed things out with gutsy sweeps.HOW IT HAPPENEDIn the doubles court, CSUN took care of business with a 6-3 and 6-1 win, as the second set would read 5-4 in favor of the Matadors before going unfinished.Hu would start singles off with a quick 2-0 sweep.CSUN responded with their first singles win with Madison Shepperson in the sixth court before Gallaway gutted out a 7-5 and 6-2 victory to tie the match at two apiece.Three set victories from Marakhtanova and Ikemori in the first two courts decided the match, giving the Aggies their third and fourth points respectively.CSUN would close out with a win in the third court, but UC Davis would walk away with a 4-3 victory.RESULTSUC Davis 4, CSUN 3Singles CompetitionPolina Marakhtanova (UCD) def.
