Tom Wooster sends goodbye message to Manchester United

Manchester United’s released list hit double figures with 10 departures confirmed.

A total of 10 players are leaving Manchester United, with the club’s released and retained list published by the Red Devils on June 9.

Among those leaving the club is goalkeeper Tom Wooster, five years after joining Manchester United in 2020.

Wooster took the gamble to make the switch to Manchester United’s academy despite winning Barnsley’s young player of the year award in 2019/20. He signed professional terms with the Red Devils in 2022.

Now 20-years-old, he is set to become a free agent when his contract officially expires on June 30.

Tom Wooster exit message

Tom Wooster spent part of this season on loan at non-league side Farsley Athletic, where he gained experience playing senior football.

It was followed a short previous loan at Ramsbottom United where he became an instant hero by saving a penalty on his debut.

Wooster was named on the bench by Erik ten Hag in pre-season 2023 against Athletic Bilbao, but did not make an appearance.

Now with his contract up, Wooster admits it is time for a fresh start as he embraces the challenge ahead.

He penned a message on Instagram: “Thank you, Manchester United. After an incredible four and a half years at the club, it’s time to move on.

“I’ve had some unforgettable experiences, made friends for life, and created memories I’ll always cherish.

“It’s been a real honour to represent such a prestigious club, rich in history and tradition.

“To my teammates, the staff, and everyone behind the scenes — thank you for your support throughout this journey. Manchester will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Tom Wooster’s achievements at Manchester United

Tom Wooster played for Manchester United’s under-18s, under-21s, and in the under-19s in the UEFA Youth League.

He made his under-18s debut when he was just 16, in a 4-2 win over Everton, and for the 21s when he was 18.

Wooster was an unused substitute in Manchester United’s 2022 FA Youth Cup win, with Radek Vitek the starter.

Wooster got the opportunity to train with Manchester United’s senior stars, and leaves with the benefit of the the club’s coaching tutelage, to take into a hopefully long and productive league career.
