GMHBA Health Update | Three Cats a test to face Essendon

3
Geelong Cats Executive General Manager – Football Andrew Mackie can provide the following updates ahead of Geelong’s Round 14 clash with Essendon on Saturday.

Over the weekend the Cats welcomed back captain Patrick Dangerfield to the AFL team, while Irish recruit Cillian Burke played his first game in the Hoops in the VFL team’s thrilling win over Gold Coast.

New updates since the conclusion of AFL Round 13

Bailey Smith (Hamstring tightness, test)

Bailey was experiencing low level hamstring tightness pre-match and the Club decided to take a cautious approach, and he didn’t take his place in the team. We will assess his availability for the game against Essendon later this week.

Shannon Neale (Ankle, test)

Shannon was subbed out of the second quarter in Saturday’s game with an ankle injury. Shannon’s ankle has improved significantly since Saturday and scans on Monday cleared him of serious injury. He will be a test to play this weekend.

Cameron Guthrie (Calf, TBC)

Cam experienced calf symptoms during the early stages of the VFL game on Sunday and after quarter time didn’t take any further part in the match. He has responded well to treatment so far and our medical and high-performance team will assess and monitor him this week before deciding on a return to play timeline.

Updated timeline for return

Toby Conway (Managemen t, 5 weeks )

Toby continues to progress his loads and is now integrated into football drills. We expect to see him run out with our VFL team in the Round 17 match against Collingwood.

Lenny Hoffman (Back, 3 weeks)
