Wayne Rooney in demand for next job after Man Utd legend's Plymouth axe

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is the most sought after property among TV broadcasters.

Ex-England captain Rooney, 39, has been a hugely impressive pundit in the past during stints on Sky, BBC and TNT Sports.

Match of the Day would happily snap him up in their new-look show for next season as they look to use a different and wider variety of guests.

Sky also rate him highly and this week he offered strong views on Gary Neville ’s Overlap show. TNT had him last season for Everton ’s game at Manchester United as he played for both clubs.

Rooney was recently at Plymouth and is now out of work as a manager - but getting offers as a pundit. Ex-Manchester United star Rooney was outspoken as a player but, having won the title five times, he can also offer an expert view on his former clubs.

TV companies will look to snap him up as a regular pundit because he will be one of the biggest names available.

The former England doesn't look like returning to the dugout any time soon after his recent sackings by Birmingham and Plymouth, with punditry a safe bet for the legendary former Red Devil.

Rooney showcased one of his strong opinions recently while appearing on the Overlap as he claimed Marcus Rashford's transfer saga was "embarrassing" and urged him to leave.

"I've spoken to Marcus a couple of times and I've given him my thoughts and my opinion," Rooney, who was recently sacked as manager of English second-tier side Plymouth Argyle, said on The Overlap.

"I said you need to leave the football club because whatever is going on in his life and whatever is going on at Manchester United, he's not the same. It's not him.

"So I said for him, to have a fresh start, he needs to leave the club. The fact that your manager is coming out and saying that you are not training right is crazy. With Marcus, it's been going on for two years and it's sad. It's really sad."
