Rosenior: This is just the start

Rosenior’s reign in the Chelsea dugout began with a comprehensive 5-1 win over Charlton as we kicked off our 2025/26 FA Cup campaign with a third-round triumph at The Valley.

However, despite being pleased with the emphatic manner of our victory, and underlining that the result is the most important thing during his early days as our head coach, Rosenior isn’t getting ahead of himself after his first win.

‘I'm one game in,’ he said. ‘Some of our passages of play were beautiful to watch. We've got magnificent players. My idea of football is not important. It's about winning games of football consistently.

‘It's a good start. It's just the start and we have to stay consistent now in a very, very hectic schedule.’

That busy run of fixtures continues on Wednesday evening, when Rosenior will make his debut in the home dugout at Stamford Bridge as we host Arsenal in the first leg of our Carabao Cup semi-final.

Our head coach explained he will continue working with the team at Cobham on all aspects of our game as he looks to start building momentum and carry that impressive form from his first game into a second competition.

‘I've got another two days. I think the biggest thing I challenged the players on was our reactions to set-backs, our intensity. Nothing tactical, nothing technical. These players are outstanding. They've been well coached before me.

‘I was very happy with the togetherness and the spirit of the group on Saturday. I was very happy with the intensity that they ran at, winning duels, winning headers, all of the basics. And that's where you get your joy from.

‘There are other elements to football other than tactics. Tactics are one element. Shape, systems, technique, they're all wonderful things. But there are other things that I feel like maybe we can improve on. And that's what we'll keep working on as well as the tactical side of the game.’
