What happened on day six?

World number one Carlos Alcaraz dropped just seven games in a routine win over Corentin Moutet while women's top seed Aryna Sabalenka also came through in straight sets against Anastasia Potapova, although she was taken to two tie-breaks.

Home favourite Alex de Minaur, the sixth seed, came through in straight sets against Frances Tiafoe, 25th seed Learner Tien downed Nuno Borges and fellow American Tommy Paul was 6-1 6-1 up when his opponent Alejandro Davidovich retired.

However, 13th seed Andrey Rublev - a former quarter-finalist in Melbourne - fell in straight sets to Argentina's 18th seed Francisco Cerundolo while Cameron Norrie lost to third seed Alexander Zverev in four to end British hopes in the singles.

Daniil Medvedev had to come from two sets down to defeat Hungary's Fabian Marozsan.

Canadian rising star Victoria Mboko and third seed Coco Gauff also went the distance. Seventh seed Mkobo beat 14th seed Clara Tauson 7-6 (7-5) 5-7 6-3 while Gauff roared back from losing the opening set to defeat Hailey Baptiste.

American teenager Iva Jovic stunned seventh seed Jasmine Paolini, winning in straight sets.

And there was an upset in the men's doubles, with British top seeds Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool falling in two sets to James McCabe and Li Tu.

Game, set and match - De Minaur

Tiafoe 3-6 4-6 5-7 De Minaur

Home favourite Alex de Minaur gets the job done in straight sets, though Frances Tiafoe stays competitive until the very end.

It took two hours and 43 minutes for victory, and the Australian will play the winner of Alexander Bublik and Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the last 16.

Tenth seed Bublik has just taken a first-set tie-break in that one.

'Serving was bad but my forehand was big'

Norrie 5-7 6-4 6-3 6-1 Zverev

Alexander Zverev was asked if he was happy with his victory: "Yeah, why not!

"To be honest, the last two matches were fantastic because they played really good tennis. Today, I think Cameron played the best match that we have played level-wise. I am happy to move forward and happy with the win.

"I actually thought I was serving bad but I was hitting my forehand quite big. That is the shot that is going to make me win or going to lose. If I feel confident in that shot and hitting it in that way, it's very important."

Break point Norrie

More bird excrement. More emergency mopping up. If you're in the crowd, I'd be wary of which towels the players are passing out at the end of the match...

Cameron Norrie levels the game at 30-all as Alexander Zverev sends a loose backhand into the tramlines.

And then another backhand error, this time from a drive volley. A bit of a needless shot.

'Zverev can be a problem for anyone'

Zverev will be very happy in the end. He has found a very high level of tennis and managed to switch the mindset and the body language at the perfect time. This is only going to build confidence for him going further into the tournament.

If he can find this level this attacking style of tennis, he is a problem for anyone.
