A Galway football club has paid its respects to a longtime member who was "always a gentleman" and a core part of the organisation.

Mervue United FC shared their condolences on Wednesday for Kevin Fallon, who served the club for years as a player, coach, manager and committee member.

"He gave the club and his community numerous years of service and has been an integral part of the history of Mervue United," the club posted on social media.

"His connection to the club is still strong with his grand children Anna and Ryan playing with the club, his daughter Sarah coaching our girls U17 girls team, his son in law Eric Connolly is our football committee Chairman, his brother in law Ollie Neary is Junior A manager and Kevin’s nephew Aaron also plays for our Junior A side.

"We offer our deepest condolences to Kevin’s wife Joanie, children Sarah and Martin, sisters Kathleen and Maria and brothers Aidan and Frank," the post concluded.

One friend ofKevin's commented on the post: "Very sad news, Kevin was such a gentleman, always had a smile & time for a chat. Sincere condolences to all the family."

"A nicer guy you couldn't meet. His hearty laugh will always ring out in my mind, whether it be in the Mervue set up or a night out in the pub. One of the truly good guys taken too soon. Rest in Peace Kevin," another commenter wrote.

In other news, a popular businessman who made his home and a successful business in Galway has sadly passed away.

Jan Pesch, owner of The Framer business, sadly passed away on December 30, leaving everyone in Kinvara heartbroken.

Businesses throughout the town have paid tribute to Jan describing him as "the friendliest person" who enjoyed having the chats with anyone who he came across.

Tully's of Kinvara paid tribute to Jan in an emotional post on their Facebook page describing Jan as the "most carefree person" who "loved the simple things."
