IND vs AUS, Live score 1st T20I: India (97/1 in 9.4 ov), Rain stops play again, halts Gill and Surya's attack

2
This is not good sight.

It is now raining heavily, which has made both sides return to the dressing room.

Only Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma can be seen seated in the India dugout; the rest have moved in.

The crowd seemed irritated too.

We were already reduced to 18 overs a side, anything more and that's gonna be a big mood-spoiler for cricket fans.

This is some frustrating stuff in Canberra, but something that no one can do much about.

Just 4.4 overs after play resumed, even after getting overs reduced to 18 a side, India's momentum has yet again been disrupted due to rain.

Suryakumar Yadav has just started bringing the big hits in, after being silent since the play resuming, him and Shubman have to again return to the dugouts.

Australia on the other hand, might just be grateful to the heavens for this rain. Nathan Ellis was already punished by getting hit for 15 runs in just 4 balls.

Live: India (97/1 in 9.4 overs) vs Australia in Canberra. Shubman Gill (37*), Suryakumar Yadav (39*)

Shubman Gill is on with his aggressive batting, and he makes life difficult for Kuhnemann even more.

Just when it was looking like a silent over for Australia, particularly with Suryakumar Yadav still finding his rhythm, Shubman slaps a six to make it 12 in this over.

While Shubman has been attacking everything that is coming his way, the India skipper seems very silent.

Live: India (82/1 in 9 overs) vs Australia in Canberra. Shubman Gill (37*), Suryakumar Yadav (25*)

HORROR FOR AUSTRALIA!!

Josh Phillpe made a long run, but fumbled at the last moment of the catch for the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav.

India are getting consistent runs on the board, and missing chances is the last thing that Australia can afford now.

Suryakumar Yadav will breathe a sigh of relief, but the India skipper has been slow since that six to Nathan Ellis.

Mitch Marsh brings spin right after the powerplay, and Matthew Kuhnemann comes into the attack.

But that choice is punished by Shubman and Suryakumar, just like what they have been doing to the pacers.

Back-to-back 10-run overs, and this is some big pressure on Australia.

Live: India (63/1 in 7 overs) vs Australia in Canberra. Shubman Gill (27*), Suryakumar Yadav (18*)

Shubman Gill brings up the fifty for India with a fine boundary.

Clear statement of intent from the India vice-captain, who is not shying off from continuing with the same aggression from where he left off.

Suryakumar Yadav is also looking for the big hit, and Marcus Stoinis concedes 10 in his very first over.

Done with the powerplay.

Live: India (53/1 in 6 overs) vs Australia in Canberra. Shubman Gill (22*), Suryakumar Yadav (12*)

We are back in action in Canberra.

Shubman Gill and Surykumar Yadav are back at the crease, with 2 balls left of the powerplay.

Marcus Stoinis will be bowling the sixth over for Australia.

2 overs cut off, India will likely go big from ball one.

The rain has already bitten off some chunks from this T20I series opener.

The match is reduced to 18 overs per side, and it will resume by 3:00 PM (IST).

Powerplay will be of 5.2 overs.

The pitch covers are also coming off.

The umpires and match referee are on the field, with their umbrellas out.

Possibly discussing the route of action in case this rain doesn't stop anytime soon.

India, despite losing the wicket of Abhishek Sharma, were having a great start, and will be aiming to keep the same flow going when this match resumes.

Abhishek Sharma's first dance in Australia was a short one, but not without the usual flashes.

Saying nah to pressure, the India opener once again started with his usual fiery style, but was ultimately dismissed by Nathan Ellis.

Fans were left wanting more of Abhishek's flair, but backed the opener for a comeback in the second T20I.

Some even called him out for the shot selection on his dismissal.

The drizzle has intensified, prompting the umpires to call for covers. The ground staff moved swiftly, first laying the sheets over the pitch to keep it dry and protected from the rain. It has been a decent start for India so far, even if not a particularly explosive one. However, there will now be a brief delay as the rain continues, not a heavy downpour, but a steady drizzle, enough to halt play for the moment. It's been a steady start for India, not a blazing one, but solid enough to build on.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav has walked in at No. 3. He comes in ahead of Tilak Varma. India are not keeping the left-right going here? Is Surya going to bat at No. 3 from here on?

The captain has been short of runs and he needs to find form. It's good that he is giving himself time in the middle.

Suryakumar has been playing down concerns about his batting form, talking up his preparations and morale. But the former World No. 1 batter needs some runs under his belt.

Nathan Ellis gets the big wicket. A back-of-the-hand slower ball from the Chennai Super Kings pacer and Abhishek tries to slap it past the mid-off fielder. However, he is not able to get the elevation and timing. He departs for 19.

A fiery start, but Abhishek will be kicking himself for not carrying on after getting his eyes in on a pitch that seems to be good for batting.

Once again, Mitchell Marsh deserves credit for making a sharp bowling change. Bartlett looked a bit shaky in his first over and he got Ellis to bowl slower ones in his first over. A good plan and perfectly executed.

Shubman Gill survives an LBW call. Australia near burn a review. Xavier Bartlett gets one to nip in and hit Gill's pads. The Australians go up in appeal. Both the bowler and Mitchell Marsh, their captain, are convinced it's hitting the stumps. Real-time vision doesn't look close.

But, Australia take the review. And thankfully, it's the umpire's call. It's not out.

Gill has looked a bit edgy today. He needs to get a few of the middle of his bat to get going here.

Shubman Gill gets going, but he is off to a streaky start. A bouncer from Josh Hazlewood and Gill goes for the pull. However, he is beaten for pace and thankfully, the ball flies over the wicketkeeper. It's a top-edge and it nearly carries over the boundary line.

Both Gill and Abhishek are looking to target the new-ball bowlers. This approach from India at the top has been refreshing to see.
