Liverpool XI vs Man City: Predicted lineup, confirmed team news and injury latest for Premier League

Isak has missed the last four matches with a groin injury but the £125million summer signing returned to training on Friday and hopes to feature at the Etihad Stadium.

Arne Slot has warned it will take time for Isak to get back up to full speed and he is likely to start on the bench, with Hugo Ekitike set to lead the line. But his return to fitness is a boost for Liverpool.

“I know that I said three weeks ago that his pre-season has ended so now it's time for us to see where he is. But I have to come back to those words," said Slot on Friday.

“Because if you are three weeks only with the rehab, that doesn't bring you back to the levels he was three weeks ago. Although, our rehab team is doing an incredible job.

“But you cannot compare rehab with games of football or training sessions with the team. As much as we try to replicate it, that's simply not possible. So, again I have to say, give him some time.”

Jeremie Frimpong and Alisson remain sidelined and Slot must be tempted to stick with the same Liverpool team that beat Real Madrid 1-0 in the Champions League in midweek, in what was their most complete performance of the season.

Cody Gakpo could come back in for Florian Wirtz if Slot wants a more natural wide player to run in behind the high Manchester City line.

Slot said on Friday that he would have to “wait and see” if Andy Robertson is fit enough to continue his run in the side after three straight starts in all competitions.
