Tyler Dibling was impressive against Manchester United on Thursday night despite Southampton losing the game.Manchester United won 3-1 over Southampton on Thursday evening at Old Trafford, with Amad stealing the spotlight with a late hat-trick.However, despite the favourable scoreline, Ruben Amorim’s side delivered a lacklustre performance and were somewhat fortunate to secure all three points. While Amad’s brilliance stood out, many of his teammates fell short, with several players still failing to meet expectations under Amorim’s management. On the other hand, several players from the relegation favourites impressed in the Old Trafford clash, including 18-year-old Tyler Dibling. The teenage Saint also looked bright when United visited St Mary’s earlier in the season and caused Diogo Dalot a torrid time in the first-half, earning his side a penalty.Wilcox is big fan of DiblingDibling has come through the Academy at Southampton and broke into the first-team this season, playing all but one of their Premier League fixtures so far.The exciting winger did get a handful of chances in 2023/24 and Jason Wilcox was pushing for Russell Martin to involve him in their team.Wilcox, now the technical director at United, worked for Southampton as director of football for just under a year and he was clearly a huge fan of Dibling.Former Saints boss Martin said: “Jason Wilcox was pushing for us to play him more last season, but he wasn’t quite ready. It’s been beautiful to watch Tyler’s journey so far and he needs to keep going.”Dibling compared to PalmerDibling played as a touchline winger in his first game against United and then was more central at Old Trafford earlier this week. The left-footer seems comfortable playing inside and has a clear confidence when he has the ball at his feet. The Reds have been linked with him and rumours suggest he could cost around £20 million. Those traits have also led to former United player Dion Dublin drawing comparisons to Chelsea star Cole Palmer, who plays a similar style to the teenager.Dublin said on Match of the Day: “Do you know what it is? I don’t want to put any pressure on him, but he plays his game like Cole Palmer, doesn’t he?“He plays free and easy, and he gets himself into good positions, rolls players and takes the ball well.”Make sure to follow UtdDistrict on X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok to never miss out on any of our Manchester United content.
