Arsenal may have to wait until the Premier League season starts before signing Eberechi Eze.

football.london understands the Gunners would like to bring in a third attacking player in addition to Noni Madueke and the prospective signing of Viktor Gyokeres. Eze is understood to be their priority target.

The England international could become the club's most expensive signing of the season as Crystal Palace still stand firm that any buying club would have to pay the player's £67.5 miillion release clause. Should that price not be met, they may further delay any deal due to the uncertainty surrounding this upcoming season.

Palace have submitted an appeal against the decision issued by UEFA to demote them from the Europa League to the Conference League. In their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, they request their readmission at the expense of either Lyon or Nottingham Forest.

The expectation is that a decision will happen on or before 11 August. That date is ten days before the Conference League play-off round first legs, the stage Palace are currently due to enter the competition.

It is also the last Monday before the Premier League season starts.

Until they know which UEFA competition they are competing in, Palace appear unlikely to sanction a significant transfer. Fulham are the only Premier League club to have spent less this far this summer than the south Londoners.

Borna Sosa is the only player they have paid a fee for, reportedly around £3m, with Walter Benitez joining on a free transfer. Young defender Sean Grehan is the only player they have sold after agreeing an undisclosed fee with Doncaster Rovers.

Palace are seemingly saving most of their business until next month. Arsenal, therefore, may have to wait for Eze, unless they decide to pay the player's release clause upfront.

"I'm so focused on just being the best player I can be, whatever interest comes, or whatever happens," Eze said about his future last year.

"I want to enjoy my football where I am right now. The things that I can control, that's it.

"I'm really, really invested in becoming the best player I can be. Whether that leads me to another club, or to whatever, I'm at peace with that - and I try to stay there (at peace) as well."
