KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan men's tennis doubles pairing of Drew Evans and Tim Riedel won the MAC Indoor Qualifying Event Doubles A title as the Broncos wrapped up hosting the event on Sunday at West Hills Athletic Club.The duo earned a three-set tie-breaker win over Northern Illinois' Nikola Puntaric and Iker Gaztambide Arrastia 7-5, 6-7 (3-7), 10-3 and now advance to the ITA Conference Masters Tournament for a chance to earn a berth to the NCAA Individual Championships.This is the second-straight year the Broncos have sent a doubles team to the ITA Conference Masters. Last season Bronco men's tennis alum Brogan Pierce and current sophomore Jack Davison competed and advanced to the Round of 16 at the tournament.Junior Ashton Adesoro competed in the Singles A Draw title match, but fell to Puntaric in three sets 2-6, 7-6 (7-2), 1-6. Alex Antonopoulos, Oscar Corwin and Evans also competed in singles titles matches. Antonopoulos fell to UB's Minjae Kim 2-6, 1-6 in Singles B, Corwin lost to Buffalo's Faiz Nasyam 3-6, 3-6 in Singles C, and Evans fell in the Singles E title match to Ball State's Jeremy Milette 1-6, 6-4, 0-1 (4-10).Antonopoulos and Corwin teamed up to win the Doubles B title after they defeated UIC's Henrique Sa and Victor Dorojan, 8-4.Other than Evans and Riedel, the rest of the Broncos are off until WMU begins its dual match season in January.
