Newcastle fans have a lot to say about Joao Pedro after he decided to join Chelsea this summer

Chelsea have won the race to sign Brighton & Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro, seeing off competition from Newcastle United.

Unsurprisingly, Pedro’s imminent move to Chelsea has now got a lot of Newcastle supporters on social media talking.

This is not the first time that the Blues have beaten their Premier League rivals to a signing.

Newcastle were also keen on Tosin Adarabioyo last summer, but the central defender ended up moving to Stamford Bridge instead.

Newcastle fans disappointed to miss out on Joao Pedro

Pedro is an established Premier League forward who could have brought a lot to Eddie Howe’s side. It is no wonder, then, that plenty of Newcastle fans are annoyed that the club have missed out on him.

One Newcastle supporter on X described it as a blow. “Pedro to Chelsea then. We really need to stop dwelling. That feels like a pretty big blow. Pedro, [Liam] Delap, [Bryan] Mbeumo all gone elsewhere now. Time to get serious.”

Another Newcastle fan said: “I really am gutted not because Joao Pedro rejected us, it’s his choice at the end of the day, but it’s becoming a common theme for us being rejected for London life, it will be tough to get quality in.”

One user on X posted: “Yes, it’s gutting losing out on Pedro.”

Another said: “An absolute joke if we have wasted the past 18 months+ scouting players with still no clue whatsoever as to whether they even want to join, how much they will cost and if they are even for sale.”

One Newcastle supporter was really disappointed with the recruitment team’s failure to capture Pedro, saying: “Absolutely awful from Newcastle’s recruitment team. Pedro, Mbeumo & Delap were all top targets, they’ve all been played out in the public eye and we’ve not got one of them. Shambles.”

Another shared a similar sentiment: “Pure incompetence again from [Paul] Mitchell and everyone associated with transfers.”

Chelsea fans will not care, though, as they are getting an exciting attacker, who is also set to be joined by Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.

A deal for Gittens should be completed this week, giving Enzo Maresca another talented offensive option.

Why Joao Pedro decided to join Chelsea instead of Newcastle

Chelsea and Newcastle both have Champions League football to offer, but what the latter cannot provide is life in London, which was likely a big factor for Pedro.

Earlier this month, Brighton defender Igor Julio revealed that Pedro wanted to live in London.

“He always told me that he really wants to live in London, so I think he will prioritise what comes from there first,” Igor shared.

He is now about to get his wish in a blow to Newcastle, who host Chelsea in December. You would expect the Brazilian to get a pretty bad reception when he travels to St James’ Park.

A goal would really add insult to injury, but it is not something Newcastle fans have to worry about for now, with that fixture being a long way away.
