BBL 2024/25: Sydney Thunder have made a sensational start to their Big Bash League 2024/25 season, as all-rounder Daniel Sams produces a clutch for the ages in his side's 2-wicket win.

The Australian smashed 31 runs in the penultimate over, bowled by leg-spinner Lloyd Pope, when the equation was 34 runs needed off 12 balls, and after the conclusion of the over, the equation read 3 runs off 6 balls.

Daniel Sams played an unbeaten knock of 42 off 18, which included 4 fours and 3 sixes, and with that, he makes up for his poor bowling in the first innings, where he conceded 44 runs off his 4 overs, without taking a single wicket.

"It was one of those games where my plan paid off. I told Green we needed to go hard at the Power Surge, and once Pope came on, I seized the opportunity and made the most of it. It's something I've worked on a lot-taking it ball by ball and not overthinking things. The wins at the start of the tournament have given us plenty of confidence. I'm really excited for the Sydney Smash and hoping we can get one over the Sydney Sixers," said Daniel Sams, who was awarded Player of the Match.

With the win, Sydney Thunder are third in the table, behind Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers due to inferior Net Run Rate, and with that, six sides have now played their maiden game of the season. Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes are the remaining teams yet to open their account for matches played in the ongoing BBL season.
