Marseille 'will listen to offers for Mason Greenwood this summer' amid criticism of his effort... as 'two Premier League clubs weigh up move for the ex-Man United star'

Marseille will listen to offers for Mason Greenwood this summer, despite the 23-year-old's impressive debut campaign, reports in France claim.

Only Paris Saint-Germain striker and Ballon d'Or contender Ousmane Dembele has eclipsed Greenwood's tally of 19 goals in Ligue 1. He has greatly contributed to Roberto de Zerbi's side that is now guaranteed of a place in the Champions League.

However, the striker has faced criticism at points this season for his work rate and was derided by supporters earlier this term and even dropped by his publicly-supportive manager.

According to RMC Sport, the former Manchester United youngster is not a player Marseille are absolutely desperate to retain.

The outlet claim that the club will consider a strong offer tabled for the forward.

Last week, The Telegraph claimed that two Premier League clubs were weighing up a move for the striker, who completed a £27million transfer to Marseille from Old Trafford last summer.

Recent reports have claimed that Greenwood, who left Manchester United in 2023, is very keen on a return to England

It followed a claim in The Sun that he and partner Harriet Robson - with whom he shares two young daughters - were ready to end their European sojourn.

Greenwood's 17-year association with United ended after he was arrested before being charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour.

Charges against the player were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service following the 'withdrawal of key witnesses and new material coming to light'.

Greenwood vehemently denied the allegations.

He spent a season on loan with Getafe in LaLiga before signing for Marseille under former Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

There is reportedly a difference of opinion among those close to Greenwood over whether he feels ready to return to the Premier League. He is said to have privately ruled out taking a 'step down' in England after leaving United.

'He loved the fact he could just play football and his life off the pitch was not the subject of such intense focus,' a source is quoted as telling The Sun.

But after almost two years abroad, the 'novelty' is said to have worn off, with the 'introverted' Greenwood missing his family and friends back home.

De Zerbi has spoken glowingly of Greenwood this season and believes he 'has the qualities' to join the pantheon of all-time greats at Marseille.

'Greenwood is a natural talent,' said De Zerbi. 'All the credit goes to his mother and father. And I'm here to help him become more complete.

'When he needs a hug, a word of support, I gladly give it. And when I need to push him to give more, I have to do that too because that's my job.'
