Terry Yorath: Gabby Logan praises fans' outpouring of love after dad's death

Presenter Gabby Logan says the love and support she has received following the death of her dad Terry Yorath has shown her how important the football community is.

Speaking on her podcast, Logan said her family had been "totally overwhelmed and inundated" with "bucket-loads" of support from fans and players.

Former Wales and Leeds legend Yorath died on 8 January after a short illness.

The player-manager won 59 caps for Wales and enjoyed a successful playing career with Leeds United, Coventry City and Tottenham Hotspur, before managing Wales and a number of club sides.

On 7 January, Logan stepped away from presenting Match of the Day to be with her dad, and his death was announced the next day.

Speaking on the Sports Agents podcast, Logan said: "I'm OK, it's been a tough week, but I'm glad to be back in the saddle, after what has been a very emotional few days.

"Actually, we're sitting here now having already had our chat with [podcast guest] Robert Smethurst, and some of the things he talks about in terms of football as a community, our family has experienced in bucket loads over the last few days."

Logan said she has been "totally overwhelmed and inundated" with messages of love, support and stories about her dad, getting a good sense of just how much he had impacted lives and "not just of players but of fans".

This period has highlighted to her "how important football is and how it connects people... sport and football really show up in moments like this", she added.

A memory for many was how Cardiff-born Yorath went to every funeral of the 56 people who died in the Bradford City fire disaster, Logan said.

He had previously spoken of the shock of being there on the day of the fire at Valley Parade in 1985.

"It was so important to him that the players were protected and those players - who played in that team that day, how many of them - attribute their development from boys to men, to him," his daughter said.
