Brentford are set to play hard ball on a transfer fee for star forward Bryan Mbeumo after The Athletic reported he has decided he wants to join Manchester United.

The 25-year-old, who scored 20 league goals and provided seven assists for the 10th placed Bees, is set to be the latest coup for Ruben Amorim’s side after United signed former Wolves striker and Brazil international Mathues Cunha on a five-year deal after triggering his £62.5 million (A$130.4m) release clause.

The French-born, Cameroon international has one year left on Brentford contract with the London club having the option of extending for a further 12 months, but reports suggest a £60 million (A$125.2m) price tag has been put on his head.

Champions League clubs Newcastle United, Arsenal and Tottenham, who have been quiet on the transfer front as players await a decision on Ange Postecoglou’s future, were all interested in Mbeumo, but United has seemingly won the race for signature despite not offering any European football next season.

Reports in The Telegraph suggest it may not be so straightforward however, with Brentford apparently having received no contact from the Red Devils over a deal for Mbeumo.

Brentford are reportedly annoyed with how things have played out in public and one source told The Telegraph it would “all look a bit silly” for United if a deal was not reached now.

Premier League champions Liverpool have had a smoother time dealing with Brentford however, as the Reds sold back-up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to the Bees for £18 million (A$37.5m).

The Reds are closing in on signing German attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz despite a club-record £109 million (A$227.4m) offer not yet being accepted by Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

Wirtz’s addition would be Liverpool’s second addition from Leverkusen this transfer period as the champions do not sit on their hands despite retaining the majority of the title-winning squad.

Arne Slot’s side already locked in Jeremie Frimpong for £29.5million (A$61.5m) to replace Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold at right back.

Liverpool are also set to bolster their defence as they chase Bournemouth left back Milos Kerkez for a fee of up to £40 million (A$83.4m) for the Hungary international.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are set to be boosted for the FIFA Club World Cup with the addition of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Algeria defender Rayan Ait-Nouri.

A transfer fee is yet to be agreed upon, but Pep Guardiola is eager to get the 23-year-old as Wolves had previously valued him at around £50 million (A$104.3m).

The Premier League transfer window opened on June 1 and stays open until June 10 to accommodate signings for the FIFA Club World Cup before reopening on June 16 until September 1.

It is expected that a deal will be done before the initial closure.

Chelsea are in a similar situation in their pursuit of England Under-21 winger Jamie Gittens.

The Blues are in talks with Borussia Dortmund over the 20-year-old - after they first enquired in January - to reach a deal in time for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Gittens has been expected to attract offers of more than £50 million (A$104.3m), according to The Telegraph.

Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap is already set for a move to Stamford Bridge on a £30 million (A$62.6m) deal, while Chelsea have also signed 20-year-old Portuguese midfielder Dario Essugo for £18.5m (A$38.6m) from Sporting Lisbon.

Chelsea also have to deal with the matter that they are contractually obligated to buy Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho for between £20 million and £25 million (A$41.7-52.1m) or cough up a £5 million (A$10.4m) exit penalty fee.

Newly promoted Sunderland are set to lose England and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham’s younger brother, Jobe, with the 19-year-old midfielder following in his brother’s footsteps and committing to Dortmund, according to Sky Sports.

The German side and Sunderland need to reach an agreement with the price tag set to be around £25 million (A$52.1m).
