Man Utd fans have lot to say about Casemiro after performance vs Tottenham in Europa League final, it's as 'simple as that'

Manchester United fans dropped a telling reaction after Casemiro’s performance in the Red Devils’ 2025 Europa League final encounter with Tottenham on Wednesday.

Tottenham met Manchester United in the Europa League final at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao and Spurs came out on top in the all-English showdown.

United were left chasing the match against Tottenham after Brennan Johnson broke the deadlock — and secured the eventual winner — in the first half of the Europa League tie.

Brennan Johnson’s opener was helped in by Luke Shaw and a scrambling Andre Onana was unable to keep the ball out of the United net on Wednesday evening.

Ruben Amorim’s men were unable to climb back into the tie and the United could not find the crucial equaliser before the full-time whistle at the San Mames Stadium.

Tottenham’s 1-0 win over United ensured that the Europa League trophy is heading to north London and capped off a disastrous 2024-25 season for the Red Devils.

Ruben Amorim will end the season without major silverware as United manager and the Red Devils currently languish in 16th place in the Premier League table.

United will now be without European football for the 2025-26 season at Old Trafford and the Red Devils have missed out on getting back into the Champions League.

What were Man Utd fans saying about Casemiro after the 1-0 Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in Bilbao?

Casemiro played the full 90 minutes against Tottenham and the former Real Madrid star struggled to make an impact for Manchester United at the San Mames Stadium.

Ruben Amorim deployed the 33-year-old Brazilian midfielder alongside Bruno Fernandes, who also proved equally as ineffective against Spurs in the 1-0 defeat.

Casemiro has impressed in the Europa League campaign this season and the ex-Los Blancos midfielder has seen a resurgence in form under Amorim in recent months.

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, blasted the midfield pivot between Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes for Wednesday’s final defeat.

One X user wrote: “Bruno or Casemiro didn’t turn up, and we didn’t win. As simple as that.”

“Casemiro and Bruno went missing tonight,” someone else tweeted.

Another United fan said: “Casemiro and Bruno in midfield [were] shocking [tonight and would] give the ball away every time.”

While a fourth Red Devils supporter claimed: “If we are been honest, Ruben Amorim selecting [Mason] Mount to start was a bad idea. Push Bruno forward and put [Manuel] Ugarte beside Casemiro.”

Somebody else added: “Two big mistakes by Amorim; first to start [Luke] Shaw and then not starting Ugarte alongside Casemiro… Bruno should have played much higher.”

A sixth posted: “I can’t believe I’ve just watched Bruno and Casemiro drop 5/10 performances like that…”

“At this point, I’m tired, we can’t defend, we can’t attack only when Bruno and Casemiro decide to play,” another argued.

Someone else commented: “When Bruno and Casemiro are having bad games, literally no-one in the team can step up. I think it’s the best way to part [ways] with this bunch of players [especially the attackers].”

Rio Ferdinand’s instant reaction to Man Utd’s Europa League final loss to Tottenham at the San Mames Stadium in Spain

Speaking after the Europa League result, Rio Ferdinand insisted that the Red Devils did not deserve to beat Tottenham and dropped a brutal verdict on United’s season.

“A disaster of a season ending on a bad note, but I don’t think Man Utd did enough to deserve it,” he said on TNT Sports, as per BBC Sport.

“There was no real cutting edge in the Man Utd team. All that sustained pressure, the goalkeeper [Guglielmo Vicario] made one save in the whole game – you can’t expect to win a trophy when you’re a bit reserved.”

United will now play in their final Premier League match of the 2024-25 campaign on Sunday, with the Red Devils hosting Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
