Carlo Ancelotti to quit Real Madrid NEXT WEEK as Italian lines up new job in wake of Champions League exit

The managerial giant is expected to leave the club at the end of this month

Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly set to leave Real Madrid NEXT week.

The Italian great confessed on Wednesday night that his future was in doubt after the 5-1 Champions League quarter-final humbling to Arsenal.

Ancelotti's superstars also trail Barcelona by four points in the La Liga title race with seven games to play.

Madrid still have the chance to win silverware with the Copa Del Rey Final against Barcelona on Saturday, April 26.

But Sky Sports report that will be Ancelotti's final game in charge of the European heavyweights as he takes up his first international job with Brazil.

Asked about his long-term future as Real Madrid boss, Ancelotti said on Wednesday: "It could be this year, next year when my contract runs out... there's no problem about it.

"But when I am done here, I will be grateful to this club. It could be tomorrow, in one year, or in 10 years, but I will be grateful to this club. And that's it. Full stop.

"We have done very well in the last seasons but this year we have had to suffer. Things haven't gone as expected but in sport it happens because there are no unbeatable teams.

"Arsenal were better than us. We tried to do our best. Maybe the overturned penalty was a turning point. That could have changed it.

"But Arsenal defended very well. We found it difficult to find spaces. We were better than normal in our intensity level but it wasn't enough."

Bayer Leverkusen boss and ex-Los Blancos star Xabi Alonso is among the favourites to replace five-time Champions League-winner Ancelotti.
