Novak Djokovic roared with all his might on match point, a stark contrast to his composed coach Andy Murray, as the Olympic champion battled past Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open 2025 quarter-final.

Djokovic defeated Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in the early hours of Wednesday (22 January) in their first meeting since the iconic tennis men's gold medal match at Paris 2024, which Djokovic won in straight set tiebreaks.

At the Rod Laver Arena, the duo served up a three-and-a-half hour classic, featuring a remarkable 10 converted break points. There was not even one in their Olympic duel.

The 37-year-old Djokovic said on court following his win, “I just wish that this match today was the final…just one of the most epic matches I’ve played on this court – on any court.”

The Serbian is into a sixth Australian Open semi-final in seven years, the only exception coming from his tournament absence in 2022. He'll face world number two Alexander Zverev on Friday (24 January), after the German defeated 12th seed Tommy Paul in four sets.
