Bill Belichick's daughter-in-law shades Jordon Hudson over CBS interview

Bill Belichick’s daughter-in-law weighed in on the ongoing drama involving his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordan Hudson, the famed football coach and his “CBS Sunday Morning” interview.

Jennifer Schmitt, the wife of Belichick’s son Stephen, seemed to throw shade at Hudson over her decision to interrupt CBS News’ Tony Dokoupil’s question to Belichick about how the couple met.

The interview and the response have led to plenty of criticism of Hudson and Belichick, though some have come out to support the pair, including Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski during their Wednesday episode of their “Dudes on Dudes” podcast.

Both former Patriots, who played under Belichick, believed Hudson had been “working” with Belichick as his publicist, a notion that Nikki Glaser agreed with in a comment on the podcast’s Instagram page, where the comedian explained that “she’s acting as his publicist.”

That led to Schmitt commenting on the situation and calling Hudson’s actions into question.

“Publicists act in a professional manner and don’t ‘storm’ off set delaying an interview,” Schmitt wrote.

It’s unclear if Schmitt was simply referring to the TMZ report about how Hudson had stormed off the set or if she had more direct insight into what went on during the interview.

The post is notable since Schmitt’s husband is a member of Belichick’s North Carolina coaching staff, and he was the subject of one of the emails The Athletic got its hands on through an open records request.

Hudson wrote to North Carolina’s media team about how to frame Stephen’s hiring as the defensive coordinator.

Belichick was hired by UNC to lead the football program in December and later hired his son for a role on his coaching staff after working under his dad in New England before a stint as the defensive coordinator at the University of Washington.

In her email, she expressed concern over the perception of nepotism in the hire, and told the school that it shouldn’t use photos of Bill and Stephen to prevent “controversy.”

She also suggested that they not refer to Stephen as “Bill’s son.”

“I believe being strategic about the depiction of the Steve (sic) will prevent controversy and show upmost (sic) respect towards Steve’s career, validate Bill’s decision as a HC to hire Steve,” she wrote.

It’s unclear what Hudson’s relationships with Belichick’s three children — Stephen, Brian and Amanda — are like.

All three have gone into the coaching profession.

Sunday’s interview opened a new slew of criticisms, and Hudson was described as a “constant presence” before additional reports gave more insight into the bizarre interview.

Belichick defended Hudson in a statement he released through UNC, contending that she was “simply doing her job” to keep the interview on track and alleged that CBS had “selectively edited clips” to push a “false narrative,” which pained Hudson as “attempting to control the conversation.”

He also claimed he told a publicist at Simon & Schuster that any interviews he did for his book “would agree to focus solely” on the book.

A CBS News spokesperson denied that was the case, saying in a statement that the sitdown was for “a wide-ranging interview” that had “no preconditions or limitations.”
