‘Liverpool in race to agree £60m Eberechi Eze deal’

Liverpool have joined the race to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze this summer and are keeping a close eye on his situation.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 26-year-old has the ability to step up to an elite club.

However, there are concerns about the midfielder’s consistency and ability to step up when his team are struggling which could put clubs off of a move.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider Arsenal “would love” to sign Eze this summer as they look to add another game-changer into their midfield.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have also been interested in Eze as interest in the England international continues to ramp up ahead of the summer transfer window.

Liverpool believe he would be an upgrade on their current options, but will likely consider alternative targets before making a move.

Liverpool plot move to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

Liverpool have been long-term admirers of the Crystal Palace star after Football Insider revealed in October that Liverpool are interested in signing Eze.

Now, Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted the midfielder will have to prove himself before earning a big move away.

“Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in Eberechi Eze,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve been keeping an eye on his performances, as have other clubs, and could make a move if he is going to leave Palace this summer.

“He’s a very talented player if you can get the ball into him in dangerous areas.

“The problem is, he can become a passenger if the game is going against you.

“We’ve seen it for Palace against Man City last week, he scored in that game but when it turned around he wasn’t involved anywhere near as much as you’d want him to be.

“That’s going to be a concern for the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal because they want players who they know are going to perform week in week out.

“He’s definitely a player they’ve been looking at and he’s got the talent to make that step up.

“He just need to prove he can do it every week, so I think they’ll have option ahead of him on their list.”

Arne Slot eyes Jamie Gittens deal amid Arsenal and Chelsea interest

One alternative option Liverpool have considered should they opt against signing Eze is Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens.

Brown told Football Insider on 16 April that Liverpool will accelerate their efforts to sign Gittens ahead of the summer window to beat their rivals to a deal.

The likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham have all been keeping tabs on his progress and Gittens is open to a return to England.

This comes after Brown previously told Football Insider that Liverpool scouts have been closely watching Gittens and have been in attendance at a number of Dortmund’s games.
