Man United closing in on Matheus Cunha in £62.5 million summer deal

Manchester United are on the brink of securing a high-profile summer signing, with Wolves forward Matheus Cunha expected to join the Red Devils once the Premier League season concludes. The 25-year-old Brazilian attacker, who was signed by Wolves from Atletico Madrid in 2022 for £34 million, has become a key figure at Molineux, especially in their battle to avoid relegation.

Highly reputable football insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Manchester United plan to activate Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause in the coming days. Sources say all contractual conditions are understood, and formalities will proceed shortly after the season’s end. While no official contact between the two clubs has been made yet, the deal is reportedly “almost agreed.”

Cunha himself is keen on the move, viewing Manchester United as one of the world’s most prestigious clubs. Despite interest from Arsenal, Aston Villa, and various Saudi Pro League teams, Cunha prefers the Red Devils. His impressive 2024-25 season, with 15 goals and six assists, highlights his creative and clinical contribution in 63 Premier League appearances, including 27 goals overall.

United manager Ruben Amorim believes Cunha will fit seamlessly into his 3-4-3 system, potentially addressing inconsistencies in the Red Devils’ forward line this season. Currently, Manchester United sit 16th in the Premier League, two places below Wolves, but Cunha’s arrival signals clear intent for the club’s rebuilding efforts ahead of next campaign.
