Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic are set to take the tennis world by storm with a shock partnership next week.

Two of the biggest names in tennis are set to make their return to the ATP Tour at the beginning of 2025, and they’ll be doing so in a big way.

The Australian has been out of action for almost two years, as Kyrgios underwent multiple surgeries as he struggled with injury following his career-best year in 2022.

Djokovic himself hasn’t played since October, withdrawing from the Paris Masters, and ATP Finals following his defeat to Jannik Sinner in Shanghai.

The pair will look to announce their return to the tour with a strong showing at the Brisbane International and have now both spoken about the move ahead of next week’s tournament.

Fresh off his arrival in Australia, Djokovic was asked how he feels about playing doubles with Kyrgios to kick off his 2025 season.

“Yeah, that’s going to be fun,” he said.

“We’ve never teamed up so let’s see, you know we texted about it, and we spoke earlier in Wimbledon about playing together when he’s back on tour.

“Get the first chance right away in the first week of the season so should be fun.”

The Serb’s doubles partner was then told by reporters that Djokovic had said that he was excited to play with him at the Brisbane International, to which he replied in true Kyrgios fashion.

“Of course he is,” he said.

“Yeah, I mean everyone thinks it’s a pleasure playing with him, it’s actually a pleasure playing with me, let’s be real.”

Kyrgios went on to explain how the partnership came about, and why he is so excited to get back on court with the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

“Yeah, look, I think we wanted to play [together] one time at least before either his career ends or mine finished,” he said.

“To finally do it on my home soil where, you know I think for the fans whenever you get a team-up like this it’s important that the fans get that because that’s what tennis is about.

“Having two great personalities and trying to have some fun out there.”

Who will Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic play at the 2025 Brisbane International?

As excitement builds for the return of two of the sport’s biggest stars, the players themselves will be ready to get down to business in Australia.

The draw has been released for the doubles tournament, with the pair just one win away from a tie against the number one seeds.

A run to the title won’t be easy for the pair, but if they can replicate their singles success on the doubles court they could be in for a good week in Brisbane,

Djokovic has won just one doubles title during his career on the ATP Tour, while Kyrgios took home the Australian Open title alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis back in 2022.

They are far more used to success in the singles, where Kyrgios and Djokovic will also be competing in Brisbane.

Kyrgios has been handed a tough draw, facing off against French prospect Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the opening round, while Djokovic has the slightly easier task of playing Wildcard Rinky Hijikata, who is currently ranked outside the world’s top 70.

It remains to be seen how the pair will get on in both the doubles and singles next week, but fans will no doubt enjoy seeing the stars back on court regardless.

Kyrgios and Djokovic will play both their singles and doubles first round matches at the Brisbane International on Monday, December 30.
