Amanda Anisimova predicts how far Tatijana Maria will go at Wimbledon after losing Queen's final to her

Amanda Anisimova enjoyed a strong run at Queen’s but was beaten at the final hurdle by German player Tatjana Maria.

It was quite the week for the world number 43, who had come into the tournament with no real form to speak of whatsoever.

The veteran rolled back the years to claim a fourth title of her career, with the Queen’s crown certainly the most prestigious that she’s collected.

Anisimova was shell-shocked by Maria who denied the American a chance to really send out a message to the rest of the field ahead of Wimbledon.

The 23-year-old defeated Emma Navarro, Sonay Kartal and Qinwen Zheng to reach Sunday’s final but was beaten 6-3, 6-4 by Maria.

Amanda Anisimova makes Tatjana Maria claim ahead of Wimbledon

Maria was extremely impressive at Queen’s and she became the first female winner of the tournament for many years, with the event now back on the women’s calendar.

Anisimova thinks Maria can be a dangerous player at Wimbledon when it gets underway in a fortnight, stating that her game is set up for grass courts.

She said in her press conference: “Yeah, I mean, she hits a lot of unpredictable shots over and over again, and it was really tough for me to play the way I like to play.

“I mean, that’s why I said that (that she could reach the Wimbledon final).

“I mean, she also beat Madison yesterday, so, I mean, she’s very good on the grass, very difficult to play. I mean, I can see her having a really good run there

“Yeah, I mean, her game style is really suitable for grass. It was really tough out there for me today playing against her.

“I guess I just wasn’t so prepared. Yeah, I wasn’t expecting to be having to run so many balls down. It was a really tough match, but credit to her for playing very well.”

Maria can repeat 2022 Wimbledon run after Queen’s win

To many passive tennis followers, Maria is far from a household name in the sport, but she has enjoyed some success at Wimbledon previously.

In 2022, Maria went all the way to the last four before being beaten by Ons Jabeur in three sets on Centre Court.

It represented a brilliant chance for Maria to progress to the final and she would have played Elena Rybakina had she won that match.

Since then, it’s been a barren period for the German player, with that particular tournament being the last time she won a match at the All England Club.

This year could be different, though and after winning Queen’s, very few seeds will want to draw her in the opening couple of rounds.
