Liverpool complete latest transfer ahead of official unveiling and £35m exit

Liverpool officially completed the signing of Freddie Woodman on July 1 with further deals expected before the start of pre-season

Liverpool have now officially completed the signing of Freddie Woodman on a free transfer. The Reds confirmed last Friday (June 27) that they have reached a deal to sign the shot-stopper upon the expiry of his contract with Preston North End.

The 28-year-old’s deal with the Lilywhites expired on Monday (June 30), meaning he has now officially become a Liverpool player after his new Reds contract commenced on July 1.

Sure enough, eagled-eyed supporters will have noticed that Woodman has now been added to the squad profiles section on the club’s official website. However, they might also notice that one player also remains missing.

Woodman is not the only shot-stopper Liverpool have signed this summer with the Reds undergoing something of a revamp of their goalkeeping department.

Caoimhin Kelleher was granted a long-awaited Anfield exit as he joined Brentford in a deal worth up to £18m, with the Republic of Ireland international moving on in search of first-choice status elsewhere. Meanwhile, both Vitezslav Jaros and Harvey Davies have left on season-long loan deals to Ajax and Crawley Town respectively.

Alongside Woodman, the Reds have also signed Armin Pecsi in a deal worth up to £1.5m from Puskas Akademia with the pair providing depth in Arne Slot’s squad.

But it is also public knowledge that Giorgi Mamardashvili will join Liverpool this summer after the Reds agreed a deal worth up to £29m with Valencia last August.

Liverpool will pay £25m to the La Liga outfit with a further £4m in add-ons . Valencia are also believed to have negotiated a 10% sell-on clause for the Georgia international.

While the deal was agreed last summer, it was decided that Mamardashvili would remain at the Mestalla before moving to Anfield ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Meanwhile, he remained a permanent Valencia player last season, rather than being signed by the Reds last year and then loaned back to the La Liga outfit.

Consequently, the goalkeeper will only officially complete his move to Anfield this summer.

Traditionally, such a deal would go through on July 1 when the international transfer market opens - the same as Bosman transfers like Woodman.

But Mamardashvili has not yet been unveiled by the club and remains absent from the squad profiles section on their website.

Regardless, with the Georgian expected to link up for the start of pre-season next week, supporters will not have to wait long for Mamardashvili to be unveiled.

Meanwhile, Jarell Quansah is set to complete his permanent Liverpool exit after undergoing a medical with Bayer Leverkusen on Monday (June 30).

The defender, who won the European Championships with England Under-21s last week, is set to finalise his move to the Bundesliga outfit in a deal worth up to £35m. Liverpool reportedly have a buyback clause of somewhere between £50-60m inserted into the deal.
